Floating Ring Apparatus

There are several different types of floating ring apparatus with various uses, including: 

  • Floating ring consolidometer
    Used to eliminate friction between a soil specimen and a ring during consolidation testing. It has a base, porous stones, and a specimen ring. 

  • Floating ring annular seal
    Used to accommodate large radial rotor displacements. It’s part of a family of sealing devices that also includes face seals and segmented seals. 

  • Floating ring magnet apparatus
    Used to demonstrate magnetic repulsion. It has five ceramic ring magnets, a wooden rod, and a base.
