Motor Model (Small)

Electric motors operate on the principles of electromagnetism, which describe how magnetic fields and electric currents interact to create motion. Some key principles of electric motors include:

  • Magnetic fields
A magnetic field is a vector field that surrounds magnets and electric currents, representing the force exerted by either a magnet or a current-carrying wire.

  • Electromagnets
Electric motors often use electromagnets, which are coils of wire that carry current, to generate magnetic fields.

  • Fleming’s left-hand rule
This rule predicts the direction of force a conductor experiences in a magnetic field.

  • Magnetic field interaction
When a current-carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, the magnetic field of the magnets interacts with the magnetic field produced by the electric current in the conductor. This causes the conductor to move, creating mechanical energy.
